Minor Car Accident Distracts Driver, Causes Major Crash

Distracted driver
An 18-year-old driver looking at a minor car accident along Garner Lane caused another car crash, which resulted in two passengers getting severe injuries.

According to news reports, the accident occurred at around 5 o’clock in the afternoon last Wednesday on Highway 99 at Garner Lane, Chico, Butte, California.

Police reports revealed that a northbound Toyota Tacoma driven by Matthew Ledford crashed into a red Honda Civic driven by Luke Mellis, 20, who was waiting for the southbound traffic to turn into an orchard.

Ledford was blamed for the incident since Mellis had his blinker on while waiting to make a turn when the distracted Ledford hit his Honda Civic.

Fortunately, both drivers were left unscathed while two teen female passengers were severely injured after hitting their heads hard. The two women were transported to the nearest hospital, according to California Highway Patrol spokesperson Mark Keyes.

Apparently, it appeared from the initial investigation that the Toyota’s airbags deployed but the Honda’s did not due to the strong impact of the collision. In addition, the vehicle model of the Honda had no passenger airbags installed.

Meanwhile, police claimed that alcohol or drugs is not a factor to the incident but only an indication of a distracted driver.

Incidentally, such type of accidents can be prevented if only the driver stayed focus on driving. Distracted driving is dangerous and in split second can cause devastation into one’s life. Therefore, if drivers would not pay their full attention on driving, further similar accidents are likely to happen, reminded by a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer.

Whitney Houston’s former husband, Bobby Brown, was again indicted after he was spotted driving recklessly in Los Angeles streets.

According to news reports, Bobby was pulled over by cops after he was seen driving aimlessly and erratically last Thursday. Police claimed that they immediately smelled the strong odor of alcohol in Bobby. Therefore, he was given a series of sobriety tests, which he repeatedly failed.

Consequently, he was taken under the custody of the apprehending officers.

Incidentally, the DUI arrest is Bobby’s third following his first offense way back in 1996 and another one just last March this year. Subsequently, Bobby has sought rehab treatment for his addiction issues.

Whether he got depressed over his estranged wife’s death or there must have been some other reason behind his alcohol dependency, it is not confirmed.

Bobbi and Whitney Houston was married for a little more than 14 years. They had a child named Bobbi Kristina.

Meanwhile, speaking about the couple’s only child, it could be remembered that Bobbi Kristina and her boyfriend was reportedly involved in a car accident more than a month ago.

Further details regarding the incident remain undisclosed until present. However, according to previous reports, Bobbi Kristina and her boyfriend, Nicholas “Nick” Gordon, were seen arguing while the car was moving when the accident occurred.  Allegedly, Nick’s Camaro was wrecked following the incident.

Going back with Bobby’s DUI arrest, the news regarding the same allegedly surfaced just a day after his daughter announced her pregnancy with her boyfriend Nick. Nick is Whitney Huston’s adopted child. After the latter’s death, the two became close to each other and ended up as lovers. In fact, recent news claim that the two were engaged and were actually planning a wedding.

Meanwhile, a Los Angeles injury lawyer here who has monitored the late singer’s career and how she developed a family was likewise rejoicing now that everything about her family seems like getting smooth—except for Bobby.

Incidentally, Bobbi Kristina’s grandmother, Cissy Houston, was initially keeping off Bobbi Kristina from her inherited funds. However, the two reportedly settled their personal issues and in fact, Cissy is now permitting her granddaughter to take over her millions.

Woman Involved in a Single Vehicle Accident Refuses Help

A woman who rammed her car into a building in Boyle Heights tried to refuse help coming from the people who witnessed the single accident on Tuesday morning.

According to reports, the woman was driving with a rate of speed of 60 to 80 mph when the car she was driving rammed into a building east of downtown Los Angeles.

Witnesses said that the woman sped fast while driving in Boyle Avenue, swerved onto the other side of the street, and went over the curb, causing the car to ram into the Enki Youth and Family Services Building.

One of the witnesses stated that he and his friend were the first ones who responded and helped the woman, but the woman seemed unwelcome to the help they extended to her. The woman allegedly even yelled at her rescuers and tried to piss them off.

Respondents further stated that they had to dig the woman to free her from the wrecked car and the woman even tried to run. Therefore, respondents had to detain the woman until the police arrived.

Although witnesses speculated that the woman had a medical condition that may caused her impairment, authorities are still determining the main cause of the accident. Alcohol was also suspected as a factor to the incident. Nevertheless, the woman was transported to the nearest hospital as a precautionary measure even though there was no apparent sign of personal injury on her.

Meanwhile, the building is being restricted from unauthorized persons until the premise was declared safe.

Allegedly the woman was not arrested probably due to the absence of a complaint since nobody sustained injury from the single car accident. But, she would definitely be required to pay for damages incurred by the incident. If that will be the case, she may no longer need to obtain the services of a vehicle accident lawyer to assist her in bringing out a defense for her actions.

Toddler Ejected from Car due to Improperly Secured Car Seat

Can parents be liable for their child's injuries in a car crash?

Yes, when parents fail to abide with traffic laws that result to injuries of their child, cops can lock them up in jail.

Consider the case of a two-year-old child who was ejected from an improperly secured car seat during a car accident at Santa Monica Freeway on Sunday. The toddler was listed in critical condition, reports said.

According to reports, the driver was getting off the 10 Freeway when the car collided with another vehicle. The car rolled over near Fairfax Avenue intersection and burst into flames.

At least six other passengers suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The other driver sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

If the results of investigation show that the child’s parents or guardians failed to fasten the child properly, the court may impose penalties on them. More so, if the parents ignored known defective car seats, the court may reduce the damages when they file a personal injury lawsuit against the other driver.

Under California law, vehicle drivers have the responsibility to ensure the safety of child passengers. This means installing baby seats with lap belts as protection from road hazard. It also requires motorists to check if the safety equipment is in good condition and was properly fastened to the child. Failure to fulfill such regulations can result to legal consequences.

Failure to Wear a Seatbelt is An Act of Negligence

Seven teenagers aged 15 to 20 sustained minor to major injuries after the Honda car they were riding slammed into a parked big rig at an onramp to Highway 99 in Selma.

Apparently, the car was travelling south and exited Highway 99 at about 80 mph and failed to stop at the stop sign at Second Street.

They ended up in a rear-end collision with a big rig that was parked on the left shoulder.

According to reports, four of them were not wearing seatbelts during the collision.
The passengers could all file for personal injuries against either the parked truck driver if he committed any traffic infraction or against the driver of the car they were riding.

From the details of the report, the most liable party in the car accident though is the driver of the Honda car.

Running at 80 mph, which is beyond the speed limit and failing to stop at a stop sign can be considered by the courts as reckless driving, therefore a negligent act.

However, the conditions of the accident could affect the decision and the damages that will be given by the court.

Since four of the six passengers (excluding the driver) were not wearing a seatbelt during the car vehicle collision, the defendant could argue that those four had committed some comparative negligence.

Since the California seatbelt law requires that all vehicle riders wear a safety belt, the 6 passengers had a duty to wear their seatbelt while inside the car.

By not wearing a seatbelt, the four have breached or failed to fulfill that duty.

The defendant may also argue that the injuries may have been caused or has been aggravated by not wearing a seatbelt in the first place.

They could still win the case, but it would not be surprising if the amount of damages awarded would be significantly smaller compared to those who wore seatbelts.
We should all remember that the laws passed federally and by the state gives us a duty to follow it; failure to do so is an act of negligence.
