LA Driver Dies Shortly After Carmageddon

Staying away from the "Carmageddon" site seems not enough to avoid an accident.

Hours after the closure of 405 Freeway or the so called "Carmageddon", a male driver has died in a collision with a Porsche Carrera.

The 28-year-old motorist was taking an alternate route on Sepulveda Boulevard when he veered off the lane and hit another car on Saturday morning. Paramedics rushed him to a local hospital, but he did not survive his injuries, according to reports.

Reports said the other driver sustained non-life threatening injuries.

"You have been warned", but the words were not enough to prevent collision on the alternate highway. Sepulveda Boulevard served as the primary option on reaching the west side of Los Angeles. It received the heavy flow of traffic starting Friday evening and lasted on Sunday noon to give way for the I-405 re-widening project.

The closure on the I-405 ramps between the 10 and 101 freeways compelled motorists to re-route on north-south canyon roads such as Beverly Glen Boulevard, Cahuenga Boulevard, and the Sepulveda Boulevard. Local transportation officials have promised to finish the construction before Monday.

On Sunday noon, the local government boasted reaching the goal ahead of time, but cannot deny a life that has been sacrificed on Saturday morning. Perhaps, instead of giving bonuses among laborers, the money can be given to the family of the deceased driver. It may not be enough to cover the emotional loss, but it can help starting anew.

The family of the victim may file a premises liability lawsuit against the government to recover damages. Nevertheless, they will have to present documents that will prove that the accident is related to the I-405 construction project.

Man Walks Dog, Killed by Train

Pedestrians should be cautious when walking near railroads where trains are likely to pass by and hit them. Deaths from these accidents continue to grow as a recent accident has again claimed the life of a man walking his dog.

A man who appears to be 30-year-old died after being clipped by a Coaster train that was going about 50mph at around 7:30 pm.

Reports indicate that the man was walking his Labrador and was heading east while crossing the railroad when he was struck by the Coaster train that was making its last northbound trip from Old Town station.

Authorities said that the conductor of the train only had seconds to react as the man appeared to be inattentive. No one in the train was reportedly injured and passengers were placed on busses to get to their destinations.

Rollover Crash Kills Driver Hit by Cab

A cab driver who was trying to shift lanes at 65mph recently rear-ended an SUV driven by a 65-year-old woman who lost control of the vehicle and died after the rollover crash in Golden Hill.

The woman, identified as Phyllis Lorraine Kirk of San Diego, sustained fatal injuries when her Chevy Blazer flipped over several times before resting on its roof along the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 when it was clipped from behind by the Ford Crown Victoria.

When shifting lanes, motorists should be wary of other driver’s speed in order to avoid collisions that they will be held accountable for.

The cab driver who was trying to go to the No.4 southbound lane from the No.2 lane was questioned but was not arrested as authorities continue to investigate the accident.

Missing Elderly Man found in Overturned Car

Roger Avary, a screen writer known for movies such as “Pulp Fiction” and “Beowulf” was sentenced to one year imprisonment and five years probation for the fatal accident he caused last year.

Avary earlier pled guilty to charges of gross vehicular manslaughter and drinking under the influence of alcohol.

Reports indicate that the accident which happened in 2008 involved the death of Avery’s passenger and injuries of his wife after she was ejected from the vehicle when they hit a telephone pole.

Avary’s accident is among the estimated 34,000 fatal vehicular accidents which were reported in 2008.
